Update on calendarAgain, I'm so sorry for the delay, guys ;_; Art block and some IRL stuff hit hard, but I'm back now~ I'll finish the pending designs in the next few days in a different style [minus sugar skull, which is already a WIP with the previous style], which is basically a cleaned up lineless version of these sketches.
If you don't like the new style, I can refund whatever money you've sent, no worries ^^
This is honestly what I should've done from the beginning, but I was scared it wouldn't look professional enough without lines or that it would take more time. Turns out, forcing myself to work with a style I'm not comfortable with ends up taking longer, heh.
I might not make each a separate deviation- I don't wanna spam people's inbox with 2/3 of a month's worth of design over just a couple of days. So I'm thinking of uploading the lot together, and finally working on the site's masterlist to add e



Hi everyone! Finally posting this- at the witching hour of the first day of October, no less, haha.
Sorry for the inactivity lately~ but hopefully this event will make up for it, as there will be quite a few designs to look at this month ^^
Most of you are probably familiar with these calendars, but for those who aren't~ some adoptable artists started making advent calendars for Christmas [bet you've seen Witchpaw's] with one holiday-themed adoptable design for each day, but I've also seen it adapted to other special days such as Valentine's [hawberries' was great] or Halloween- even Summer [Lilwolfpard's].

If you're new here, you'll probably want to know that each adoptable I make this month will be a member of my closed species, the quetzalli. They're dragon-like creatures whose lore ties them to the Mesoamerican god Quetzalcóatl. You can learn a little bit more about them on the site, and check out the art I've made of them in this folder.



Now, because I'm [and the quetzalli are, at least somewhat] Mexican, I thought it would be a good thing to include both Día de Muertos and Halloween in one calendar. After all, I grew up with both of them- picking just one would have taken half the fun out of it!

Because there are 33 days from the first day of October to November 2nd, it was easy to divide the calendar into three parts. These are three tiers that will loosely define the level of rarity of the designs. Starting with uncommon and rare, and ending with a few of the First Children, though there will be a couple more of those sprinkled throughout.

  • Sweets [$8/800 points]:

    Designs that come out on these days will be based on a mix of American and Mexican sweets. Some are older, traditional treats, others more modern.

  • Beasts [$10/1000 points]:

    Different animals associated with the holidays- many of these are shared between American and Mexican traditions.

  • Myths [$12/1200 points]:

    I tried to dig in the roots of both Halloween and Día de Muertos and come up with deities and mythical creatures from ancient Celtic and Mexica legends, but there are also creatures only recently associated with the date thrown in.


I know this is slightly pricey for dA, but keep in mind each design will be freehanded [no bases around here] and fairly complex. You can check out the designs out so far on this gallery folder.



How to adopt:



You can use the form to adopt either a Surprise or a Semi-Custom [extra $3/300 points] quetzalli.
A surprise quetzalli's design is entirely up to me. It will be based on its day's theme.
For a semi-custom I will loosely incorporate a few elements of your choice
[these are and/or, you don't have to specify all of them] into its day's theme.
I will only do a semi-custom if the [unreleased] design isn't yet marked as finished here.
